
The Texas Association of School Boards recently published an article, “A Look at the Teacher Supply in Texas,” by Cindy Clegg that illuminates the growing impact of alternative certification in the state. In 2015-16, 62 percent of all newly certified teachers in Texas (15,515 educators) came from alternate route programs. The author notes that “today, alternative certification programs produce the lion’s share of all new teachers and it is hard to imagine where we would be without them.”
